I owed £1800 in 2007 my council took me to the county court and sucessfully ( for them ) got me bankrupted. I lost my home, my family everything.

Why would you do 90 days porridge for the sake of 1800 notes.

Re: Unpaid Council Tax
I'm having all sorts of grief on this front.

Firstly my drum wasn't valued on account it was a refurbishment of a condemned property. The valuation arrived a couple of days before I left the country on a contract and a summons for non-payment based on that new valuation duly arrived a couple of days after I left.

I've settled in full (with receipts to prove it) but they still insist it all now has to go through the debt collectors with the additional costs involved.

They haven't given me my money back though - and I suspect this debt-collection malarkey is all a bit old-boys network, helping a few mates steal a living.

Thanks, Alan.

You've sabotaged the comic potential of WHOers bitterly complaining about stroppy bus-drivers refusing to take First Class (Large).

Sorry matey, that's an urban myth - not true.

Doesn't the bank have those cash machines that you can pay in coins to? Solves your problem.

Penners 28

Recently the bank have started getting a bit shitty with the kid when she goes there to deposit a few quid in small coins that
she has accumulated off relatives.

Two or three times a year she'll turn up with a few notes and maybe 20 quid in mixed coinage.

They were such twats about it the last time I now just shove it all in the self service check out at Tescos. Never had a problem doing that.

Can't believe people feed £100 worth of coppers into those change machines you see in the supermarket and get something daft like £85 back.

Re: Unpaid Council Tax
sold, do you know shops etc can legally reject payment for something over 20p if the shopper is paying in coppers

Re: Unpaid Council Tax
I've twice been issued summonses for non payment of Council Tax.

Both times I'd ignored reminder letters until the final, final demand for payment. I'd pay it by card over the phone on that last day... then a month later receive a summons stating that in order to cancel the court appearance I would have to pay £0.00 in full.

I've had that from two different local authorities. Thick ####s can't manage a computer system that doesn't realise that you can't pay £0.00. I remember the first time it happened I phoned up Newham Council and this African lady laughed down the phone in a patronising manner saying that it "wasn't possible" that I'd received that letter despite the letter being in my hand at the time.
